Background

A variety of interventions have shown strong potential for enhancing self-regulation and fostering neuroplasticity. These interventions include neurofeedback, neuromodulation, virtual reality, mental imagery, and music-based approaches. They have demonstrated significant promise in modulating neural and cognitive processes, thus facilitating adaptive responses to various stressors and challenges. Understanding the efficacy, mechanisms, and potential applications of these interventions is crucial for promoting mental well-being and regulating nervous system functions.

In response to the prevalent reliance on practitioners and pharmaceuticals for alleviating physical and emotional distress, this Research Topic aims to explore alternative approaches to enhancing well-being while mitigating the risks of dependency and addiction to pharmaceutical drugs. Recent interventions that mediate functional connectivity changes between brain networks have shown promise in fostering resilience and reducing reliance on external aids. By investigating interventions that create or enhance pathway connectivity, this research seeks to provide sustainable methods for independent self-regulation. The goal is to contribute to the growing literature on interventions that facilitate enduring changes in brain function, offering potential avenues for individuals to cultivate resilience and manage distress autonomously.

The scope of this Research Topic encompasses a range of cutting-edge methodologies aimed at transforming both subjective experiences and nervous system dynamics to foster self-regulatory strategies. We are interested in a variety of manuscript types, including Original Research, Reviews, Methods, Perspectives, and Case Studies.
Authors are invited to submit research that prioritizes interventions designed to facilitate autonomous self-regulation, with or without the aid of training, digital tools, or technological support. The ultimate goal is to advance the understanding and implementation of strategies for autonomous well-being management.

Contributors are encouraged to address the following themes:
• The role of neurofeedback and neuromodulation in enhancing self-regulation
• Virtual reality applications for emotional and cognitive training
• The impact of mental imagery on neuroplasticity
• Music-based interventions and their effect on neural processes
• Alternative interventions for reducing dependence on pharmaceuticals.
