About this Research Topic
This Research Topic seeks innovative studies and reviews offering innovative solutions to the challenges that can prevent full multi-disciplinary integration and innovation in systems biology. In addition to topics from subject matter experts in the various relevant domains, topics that involve collaboration among experts from various fields addressing approaches to integrate data types and promote cross-disciplinary approaches are appropriate.
The Research Topic highly welcomes original research articles, review manuscripts and methods articles covering, but not restricted to:
• Descriptions or validation studies of novel methodologies for gathering phenomic data for lower cost or at scale.
• Descriptions or validation studies for measurement of multiple biomarkers in smaller organisms or populations where it’s not possible to collect large amounts of blood (e.g. infants or the elderly).
• Development and testing of novel approaches, including digital and artificial intelligence approaches, for measuring neurocognitive functioning in both health and disease.
• Approaches for optimizing the accuracy and scalability of measures for important lifestyle behaviors such as diet, exercise, sleep, and stress.
• Development and validation studies of novel methodologies for quantifying environmental factors in relation to physiology or health.
• Approaches and discussion of opportunities and challenges for the use of artificial intelligence in personalized and systems medicine.
• Explorations of key policies and regulations that impact the implementation of systems approaches in healthcare, including descriptions of successful approaches used in specific countries or regions.
As part of this Research Topic we hosted a roundtable discussion and public Q&A on this very topic. Featuring Prof. Micheal Snyder (Stanford University), Prof. Michele Belot (Cornell University), Dr Polina Segalova (Head of Product at Teal Health), and Gary Smith (Senior Expert Systems Engineer at Airbus Defense and Space) on the 11th of June 2024.
