About this Research Topic
Despite being increasingly recognized as a commonly occurring form of family violence, CPV remains an area that lacks research on both the developmental factors associated with it, through to interventions that may be effective at reducing it. This Research Topic aims to gather evidence about the factors that contribute to, and maintain, child to parent violence, as well as strategies and interventions for reducing or minimising its occurance.
More specifically, we expect the contribution including but not limited to the following potential areas of focus and scope:
1. Risk factors for CPV:
- Explore various individual, family, and societal factors that contribute to the development and perpetuation of CPV.
- Individual factors could include things like temperament, mental health issues, history of trauma or abuse, and substance abuse.
- Family factors might include dysfunctional family dynamics, poor communication, parental conflict, and inconsistent discipline.
- Societal factors could encompass influences from media, peer groups, and cultural norms.
2. Prevention of CPV
- Identify key components of effective prevention strategies, such as early intervention, parental education, and community involvement.
- Assess the feasibility of implementing prevention programs in diverse settings and populations.
3. Intervention for CPV
- Examine current intervention approaches designed to address CPV within families.
- Assess the effectiveness of therapeutic interventions, counseling services, and support programs for both parents and children.
- Explore innovative intervention techniques, such as restorative justice practices or family therapy models.
In light of these gaps in knowledge and practice, this Research Topics aims to contribute to the field by examining the developmental factors associated with CPV and exploring strategies for prevention and intervention. By gaining a deeper understanding of the underlying mechanisms and effective approaches for addressing CPV, we can work towards developing more comprehensive and targeted responses to this important issue, with the aim of maintaining healthy family dynamics.
