Coronary heart disease and comorbid chronic diseases, including but not limited to hypertension, diabetes, stroke, chronic renal insufficiency, etc., pose a substantial threat to human health. These diseases are the leading cause of cardiac mortality, especially amongst older adults. And it is vital essential for reducing the cardiac mortality rate in the world to strengthen the ability for surgical treatment and perioperative organ protection for coronary heart disease and comorbid chronic diseases, which is a "bottleneck" problem urgently needed to be solved in clinic.
With the advancement of clinical treatment concepts for coronary heart disease, there has been an increased focus among medical professionals on integrated treatment approaches that address both coronary heart disease and chronic conditions, such as the homology between the heart and brain and their shared treatment strategies. However, the mechanism support, potential risk analysis, early risk identification and stratification, surgical treatment decision-making, perioperative organ protection strategy still require further exploration by both basic and clinical scholars.
In this Research Topic, we focus on an update on the pathophysiology, epidemiology, prevention, treatment, rehabilitation, and management of coronary heart disease and comorbid chronic diseases who undergoing surgical treatment, especially affordable and potentially widely applicable for the surgical management, including PCI, CABG, and hybrid operation, and perioperative organ protection for coronary heart disease and comorbid chronic diseases. The variations in coronary heart disease and comorbid chronic diseases care across the world are also welcomed. We aim to better understand the coronary heart disease and comorbid chronic diseases and provide suggestions for policy makers and healthcare providers to address and reduce the growing burden of coronary heart disease patients who undergoing surgery in the world.
We welcome original research and review articles related to coronary heart disease and comorbid chronic diseases undergoing surgical treatment, from underlying molecular and cellular mechanisms to clinical translational applications.
1. Epidemiological characteristics and risk factors of adverse outcomes after surgery
2. Primary and secondary prevention strategies for short- middle- long-term outcomes after surgery
3. perioperative organ protection management
4. The pathogenesis and pathophysiological process of coronary heart disease and comorbid chronic diseases
5. Early risk identification, stratification and diagnosis of adverse outcomes after surgery, including statistical research and medical interdisciplinary research
6. Management of surgical strategy (including frontiers in surgical treatment of coronary heart disease)
7. Atherosclerosis-related diseases rehabilitation
8. The integrated management approaches that address both coronary heart disease and chronic conditions
9. Critical care in patients with severe coronary heart disease and comorbid chronic diseases undergoing surgical treatment
