About this Research Topic
As we face potential food shortages and the challenges of global warming, the utilization of recently evolved plant photosynthetic mechanisms, which concentrate carbon dioxide, has gained interest in the field of plant biotechnology. While there have been several attempts to implement these mechanisms biotechnologically, practical application remains a challenge. Therefore, further research into C4 and CAM photosynthetic enzymes and their regulation is needed to identify viable methods or useful enzyme genes applicable in plant biotechnology.
We invite researchers to submit articles on, but not limited to, the following topics:
• Diversity and evolution of C4 and CAM photosynthetic enzymes
• Novel physiological functions of C4 and CAM photosynthetic enzymes
• Novel biochemical properties of C4 and CAM photosynthetic enzymes
• Novel effects of genetic modification of C4 and CAM photosynthetic enzymes
• Genetic engineering of C4 and CAM photosynthetic enzymes
• Novel techniques to analyze C4 and CAM photosynthetic enzymes
This Research Topic welcomes submissions of Original Research, Reviews, Methods, and Opinions.
Keywords: crassulacean acid metabolism, photosynthetic pathway, evolution of photosynthesis, enzyme regulation, C4
Important Note: All contributions to this Research Topic must be within the scope of the section and journal to which they are submitted, as defined in their mission statements. Frontiers reserves the right to guide an out-of-scope manuscript to a more suitable section or journal at any stage of peer review.
