About this Research Topic
Nature-Based Solutions encompass adaptation strategies and risk mitigation measures inspired and sustained by natural processes. They are globally recognized as pivotal tools for climate adaptation and disaster risk reduction, especially in urban environment and densely populated areas. Crafted to tackle diverse environmental challenges in a resource-efficient and adaptable manner, NBS also aspire to generate economic, social, and environmental benefits by fostering biodiversity and providing multiple ecosystem services. Moreover, NBS offer extensive opportunities for active engagement of stakeholders and society, facilitating collaborative efforts such as co-creation and co-design of potential solutions.
This Research Topic welcomes submissions of high-quality fundamental and applied research, case studies, and new insights as original research articles following the NBS Summit 2024 Urban Edition.
NBS Summit 2024 Urban Edition stands as the premier interdisciplinary platform that fosters discussions on NBS, construction, architecture, design, and engineering of the future, unraveling the latest trends, technological and research advancements, innovations, and practical solutions shaping sustainable urban development and global market perspectives.
Contributions to this Research Topic are strongly encouraged to provide reflections and experiences highlighting the cross- and transdisciplinary character of NBS in urban context. Emphasis is given to the intersection of knowledge in the field of NBS for Sustainable Urban Development covering, but not limited, to the topics of: i) Policies, market and financing to support the implementation of NBS in cities; ii) Strategic approaches with NBS for climate adaptation and mitigation; iii) Technological innovation and research with NBS; iv) NBS and Smart Cities; v) NBS and the sustainable development goals; vi) Ecosystem services accounting, evaluation and monitoring of NBS; and vii) NBS for ecosystem restoration for healthy and biodiverse cities.
