With the rapid development of technology, research in gene and network pharmacology is playing an increasingly important role in the field of new drug discovery. Gene and network pharmacology is an interdisciplinary research method that combines knowledge from multiple fields such as genomics, systems biology, and network science, aiming to discover and develop more efficient and specific drugs.

The development of genomics provides unprecedented opportunities for studying the mechanisms of drug action. Through in-depth analysis of genomic data, scientists can more accurately identify drug targets and further understand the mechanisms of drug action. This not only helps to explain the efficacy of drugs, but also reveals potential drug side effects, providing key guidance information for new drug development.

Network pharmacology is an emerging interdisciplinary research method that combines biological networks, chemicals, and disease states to discover new drug mechanisms and drug combinations. By constructing and analyzing drug target disease networks, network pharmacology can predict the potential mechanisms of action of drugs, discover new drug combinations, and understand the process of drug action in vivo. This helps to reduce the cost and time of drug discovery and improve the efficiency of drug development.

New drug discovery is a challenging field that requires facing numerous issues such as drug efficacy, safety, and side effects. The theme of this special issue will revolve around the research progress of gene and network pharmacology in new drug discovery. We will invite top scholars and experts from around the world to conduct in-depth discussions on topics such as the research progress of genomics and drug action mechanisms, the theory and application of network pharmacology, and the challenges and opportunities of new drug discovery.
