Background

Epigenetics is the result of the interaction between environmental factors and the genetic material of cells and is extremely closely related to the occurrence and development of tumors. During the occurrence of tumors, some tumor cells initiate epithelial-mesenchymal transition through epigenetic reprogramming and acquire the ability to invade and metastasize. A small number of tumor cells also acquire self-renewal ability (stemness) and resistance to radiotherapy and chemotherapy, promoting tumor growth. The invasion, metastasis, drug resistance, and recurrence strongly threaten people's lives. In recent years, studies have found that chemical modifications of various histones play an important role in the transcriptional regulation of oncogenes and tumor suppressor genes, affecting tumor metastasis, metabolism, and immunity.

This Research Topic aims to identify a group of new key epigenetic regulatory genes that regulate tumor metastasis, metabolism, and immunity, and clarify their mechanisms of action, to reveal the correlation between key epigenetic regulatory factors affecting tumor metastasis, metabolism, and immunity, and to study the molecular mechanisms. This Research Topic is conducive to an in-depth exploration of the role of epigenetics in tumor microenvironment, immune occurrence, development, and treatment. It helps to deepen the understanding of the specific molecular mechanisms by which epigenetic genome editing influences tumor metastasis, immune cell alterations, and metabolic changes.

•The role of epigenetics in tumor therapy. How epigenetic factors can be used against tumors in chemotherapy, radiotherapy, immunotherapy, and targeted therapies.

•The impact of immune cells on the treatment of tumor development.
•The impact of metabolic changes on tumors.
•Ability of the immune system to monitor tumors - mutated cells cannot be effectively removed, leading to tumourigenesis
