About this Research Topic
This research topic aims to systematically review the current scientific evidence on the cardiometabolic health effects of dietary anthocyanins, with a focus on elucidating molecular mechanisms of action and exploring major dietary sources. The primary objectives include understanding how anthocyanins influence cardiovascular and metabolic health, investigating their antioxidant properties, and examining factors affecting their bioavailability. Specific questions to be addressed include: What are the key molecular pathways through which anthocyanins exert their health benefits? How do different dietary sources and processing methods impact anthocyanin bioavailability? Can personalized dietary interventions enhance the efficacy of anthocyanins in promoting health?
To gather further insights into the cardiometabolic health effects of dietary anthocyanins, we welcome articles addressing, but not limited to, the following themes:
• Anthocyanins and Cardiovascular Health: Exploring the modulation of inflammation, lipid profiles, and endothelial function.
• Role of Anthocyanins in Metabolic Health: Investigating impacts on glucose and lipid metabolism, insulin sensitivity, and gut microbiota composition.
• Antioxidant Properties and Cellular Protection: Examining direct scavenging of free radicals, modulation of antioxidant enzymes, and activation of stress-protective pathways.
• Dietary Sources and Bioavailability: Analyzing the content and composition of anthocyanins in various foods, and factors influencing their bioavailability.
• Long-term impact of consuming anthocyanins from food or supplements on overall health.
• Interactions of anthocyanins with other dietary components.
• Customized nutritional approaches based on individual metabolic profiles and gut microbiota composition.
• Innovative strategies to increase anthocyanin absorption through food fortification and processing methods.
• Effectiveness and stability of purified anthocyanin supplements for human consumption and their potential use as natural colorants in the food and nutraceutical industries.
