About this Research Topic
Underrepresented populations, including racial and ethnic minorities, socioeconomically disadvantaged individuals, CVD patients with comorbidities (e.g., obesity, cancer), women post menopause, older adults, facing numerous barriers to equitable healthcare access and often experience higher rates of CVD risk factors. Non-pharmacological interventions offer a holistic, patient-centred, and sustainable approach with minimal side effects that can complement pharmacotherapy, particularly in underrepresented populations.
Non-pharmacological approaches encompass various lifestyle modifications, behavioural interventions, and community-based epidemiological and interventional studies. To embrace the rapid development of technology and data science, the use of eHealth, tele-care, AI and data modelling methods are preferable. These studies have the potential to underscore/ reduce health disparities and promote cardiovascular health equity. It is imperative to invest in research, policy, and community engagement to overcome barriers and maximize the impact of non-pharmacological approaches in underrepresented populations.
In this Research Topic, we would like to create a forum for current advances on non-pharmacological approaches for cardiovascular health in underrepresented populations, for example, racial and ethnic minorities, socioeconomically disadvantaged individuals, CVD patients with comorbidities (e.g., obesity, cancer), women post menopause, older adults.
We welcome submissions on the following topics, but are not limited to:
1) Addressing health disparities in CVD care
2) Promoting healthy lifestyle (physical activity, dietary habits, managing stress, smoking cessation) for better cardiovascular health of the underrepresented populations
3) Enhancing health literacy among underrepresented populations
4) Tailoring interventions (culturally tailored, co-creation) for cardiovascular health in underrepresented populations
5) Engaging stakeholders to shape policies and develop sustainable cardiovascular health-related services for underrepresented populations
6) Multi-disciplinary care provision for CVDs patients with other co-morbidities
7) The use of technology for cardiovascular health in underrepresented populations
Keywords: Non-pharmacological, cardiovascular, underrepresented, healthy lifestyle, prevention
Important Note: All contributions to this Research Topic must be within the scope of the section and journal to which they are submitted, as defined in their mission statements.
