About this Research Topic
We invite original research articles, reviews, and opinion pieces that address recent advances in plant genetic engineering, novel plant expression systems, and downstream processing techniques that enhance plant-derived pharmaceuticals; yield, purity, and functionality. Contributions may also cover regulatory, economic, and ethical considerations and case studies on the successful commercialization and global impact of plant-made pharmaceuticals.
Particular interest will be given to works demonstrating breakthroughs in overcoming challenges related to expression levels, product consistency, scalability, Regulation and industrial application. This article collection aims to serve as a comprehensive platform for scholars, researchers, and practitioners to share insights, foster collaborations, and discuss the future landscape of Plant Molecular Farming - paving the way for sustainable and innovative solutions in biopharmaceutical manufacturing and beyond.
We accept studies in, but not limited to, the following areas:
- Studies on novel applications of PMF, including but not limited to vaccines, antibodies, biomarkers, biofortification, industrial enzymes, commonly studied plant-derived recombinant proteins such as HSA, growth factors, collagen, and other active substances, etc.
- Highlighting challenges in regulation, purification, and contamination prevention, to advance the field towards sustainable biopharmaceutical production.
- The integration of emerging technologies such as CRISPR/Cas9, synthetic biology, and AI-driven predictive modeling to revolutionize PMF processes.
Keywords: plant molecular farming, biopharmaceuticals, plant-biotechnology, PMF, CRISPR/Cas9
