During the COVID-19 pandemic a lot of evidence was published largely based on cross-sectional data, addressing immediate needs and queries. However, as we approach the two-year mark after the pandemic, it becomes important to shift our attention towards longitudinal data including the post-COVID-19 period and the learnings from this challenging period.
This Research Topic aims to explore the learnings than can be drawn from the COVID-19 pandemic with the goal to increase future pandemic preparedness among pediatric health professionals and the pediatric health care system as a whole.
Articles might be based on longitudinally collected clinical and/or population-based data, investigating health access, health outcomes, and health trends spanning from the onset of the pandemic to the present day. The overaching aim is to shift the attention to the "lessons learned" from the COVID-19 pandemic going beyond the aute pandemic data to a more longitudinal approach. Contents of these contributions should not only offer insights valuable for future pandemics, but also for the daily healthcare practices, as well as for addressing yearly challenges posed by influenza and RSV epidemics.
Keywords:
COVID-19, SARS-Cov 2, pediatric health care, challenges
Important Note:
All contributions to this Research Topic must be within the scope of the section and journal to which they are submitted, as defined in their mission statements. Frontiers reserves the right to guide an out-of-scope manuscript to a more suitable section or journal at any stage of peer review.
