Renewable energies are becoming increasingly significant all around the world as a means of reducing our environmental footprint and combating climate change. Solar, wind, hydropower, geothermal, marine, and other forms of energy should be the primary clean energy sources for eco-friendly processes. However, developing new technologies and intensifying current processes is essential to aid in the transition to renewable energy.

Biotechnology is a wide-ranging field that uses biological systems, living organisms, or derivatives to develop or produce new products or processes for various applications. It involves a combination of biology, chemistry, genetics, bioengineering, and other scientific disciplines.

An important application field of biotechnology is White Biotechnology (industrial biotechnology), which plays a vital role in the global economy and contributes to the energy transition, while also helping to mitigate climate change. The latest developments in synthetic biology, metabolic engineering, and molecular genetics, among others, provide sustainable solutions for generating biofuels (bioethanol and biodiesel, biogas, biohydrogen, and synthetic biology for biofuels), bio-based chemicals, bioremediation, waste treatment and resource recovery from renewable natural sources. Therefore, by implementing eco-friendly biological processes in industrial settings, it is possible to reduce the environmental impact and promote a circular economy, which is essential in the fight against climate change.

In summary, white biotechnology is a key enabler in the energy transition, providing sustainable solutions to produce energy from renewable natural sources.
