About this Research Topic
The primary aim of this research topic is to accumulate a series of articles that delve into the application of plant-based therapy in veterinary medicine. The goal is to conduct controlled studies to investigate the efficacy, side effects, and potential interactions of these therapies with commonly used drugs. A particular focus will be on identifying the pharmacologically-active ingredients in plants to optimize dosing regimens in animals. This research will also aim to provide a better understanding of the current state of knowledge and highlight existing gaps in the field.
The scope of this research topic is defined by its focus on the veterinary use of botanicals. We welcome articles addressing, but not limited to, the following themes:
- The application of plant-based therapy in veterinary medicine.
- Controlled studies on the efficacy, side effects, and potential interaction with drugs commonly used clinically.
- Elucidation of the pharmacologically-active ingredients in plants.
- Pharmacokinetic studies to optimize dosing regimens in animals.
- Current information on the veterinary use of botanicals such as capsaicin, lavender, St. John’s Wort, ginger, and other plant-based products.
- Review articles, case reports, and basic science/clinical investigations on the application of plant-based therapy in veterinary medicine.
