About this Research Topic
Novel insights on functionalization strategies of the materials with excellent properties, such as stability, specificity and biocompatibility, should be provided. Appropriate surface or bulk functionalization could endow the materials with multifunctional capabilities, opening up new possibilities in the biomedical field such as biosensing, drug delivery, imaging, medical implants, cancer treatment and tissue engineering. This special issue features articles dedicated to understanding, designing and characterizing complex functional materials, as well as mechanistic studies and applications. We hope this topical issue features articles will drive national designs of functional materials, inspiring new ideas for researchers in future research directions and research activities.
We welcome Original Research, Review, Mini Review and Perspective articles on themes including, but not limited to:
Design, synthesis, and characterization of novel functional materials;
Mechanism and biomedical application of functional materials;
Develop advanced techniques in biomedical application such as diagnostic imaging, drug/gene delivery, regenerative medicine, cancer treatment and medical implants, using functional materials.
Keywords: Functional materials; Mechanistic study; Biomedical application
Important Note: All contributions to this Research Topic must be within the scope of the section and journal to which they are submitted, as defined in their mission statements. Frontiers reserves the right to guide an out-of-scope manuscript to a more suitable section or journal at any stage of peer review.
