About this Research Topic
Pulmonary hypertension (PH), the primary cause for right heart disorder, is involved in multiple clinical conditions and could be associated with a variety of diseases. Though LHD is the leading cause of PH, there are insufficient studies on the effect of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) on left heart function. This gap in knowledge makes us unclear about the interaction between the right and left heart in different pathological situation. Therefore, it is very important to further investigate the coupling relationship of the right and left heart, including both their roles in the process of right and left heart failure.
In this Research Topic, we would like to create a forum for the new discoveries both on the effects of right heart disorder and related diseases such as PH to left heart function, and on the changes of right heart response with increasing pulmonary pressure from severe left heart problems. These results would be crucial for an early understanding and intervention on the de-coupling between the right and left heart - a situation that arises when issues on one side become severe enough to affect the other.
We welcome submissions of the following subtopics, but not limited to:
- Mechanism of coupling between the right and left heart.
- Investigating the interaction between the right and left heart with severe right heart disorder, including PAH or right ventricular cardiomyopathy, and others.
- Functional or structural disorders of right heart and pulmonary circulation resulting from left heart diseases, such as left heart failure, cardiomyopathy, valve disease and arrhythmia etc.
- The role of ventricular septal changes in right and left heart failure, respectively.
- Basic experiments of molecular changes in ventricular septum stemming from right and left heart diseases.
- Lab studies on changes of right or left ventricular resulting from disorder of the side.
- Risk factors or biomarkers of right-left heart de-coupling.
- Drug discovery on right-left heart de-coupling.
