About this Research Topic
Evaluating brain tumors after treatment can be a challenge. Routine and advance MRI and PET imaging are key to advance knowledge of treatment in brain tumors. Imaging can for instance help clinicians distinguish pseudoprogression from tumor progression which can ultimately save patients from inappropriate alternations in treatment. Moreover imaging damage after treatment (including surgery, immunotherapy, chemotherapy, radiotherapy or a combination) would facilitate the prevention of such damage and improve quality of life in brain tumor patients.
The goal of this Research Topic is to provide a comprehensive overview of the current state of imaging for evaluation treatment response and side effects in brain tumor patients.
We would like to welcome submissions on primary and metastatic brain tumors in adults focused on, but not limited to, MRI or PET imaging of:
- Monitoring treatment in brain tumors (including imaging protocols and follow-up frequency)
- Assessing treatment response in brain tumors (e.g. after surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy)
- Complications of treatment including changes to healthy brain areas, such as volume loss and related cognitive decline after radiotherapy.
- Pseudoprogression and radionecrosis after radiotherapy or immunotherapy.
