About this Research Topic
Nowadays the massive technological transfer offered by space economy and free open Earth Observation data permit to monitor almost each part of the planet. Nevertheless, there are still few applications that are able to link land, livelihoods, epidemiology and food security in a real One Health framework. If, from an agronomic point of view, the potential of Remote Sensing is well known and exploited in an increasingly widespread manner, from the perspective of both animal and human health this potential has not yet been entirely explored.
Food safety necessarily depends on the collaboration between agronomists, foresters and veterinarians and more generally healthcare personnel. The use of GIS, Geostatistics, and Remote Sensing tools is crucial to develop maps, services, and studies capable of integrating and understanding the effects that ecosystems’ changes have on human and animal health, according to a real One Health approach. Therefore, the main aim of this research topic is to boost the exploitation of Remote Sensing and relative services in in land, livelihoods, epidemiology and food security.
In particular, we encourage the submission of articles, reviews, short communications, case report that address the following topics in land, livelihoods, epidemiology and food security (at least one is necessary) with particular regard to:
• New Applications with Remote Sensing and GIS;
• Maps and services with Remote Sensing and GIS in the public sector;
• Development of cooperation activities;
• Cloud-based application within Google Earth Engine, Microsoft Planetary;
• Applications of artificial intelligence on geospatial data;
• Risk assessment;
• Ecological shifts due to climate change and human pressure;
• State of arts and new perspective according to an integrated One Health approach;
• Wildlife, Hunting, Zoonoses related GIS application aimed at mapping food security and/or epidemiology.
