The nutrition in feed and silage plays a critical role in the metabolism and health of ruminants, impacting their production performance, health, and susceptibility to metabolic diseases like diarrhea and ruminal acidosis in dairy cows, calves, and goats.

Silage, favored in dairy farms, minimizes nutrient loss and facilitates easier feeding, efficient feed mixing, and proper handling. The quantity of silage significantly influences the metabolism of dairy cows and goats. The microbiome, akin to a second genome, facilitates the conversion of feed into milk and meat while impacting silage preparation, nutrient metabolism, and overall ruminant production. Understanding the intricate interplay among feed nutrition, microbiome, and host metabolism is crucial for optimizing ruminant production.

This Research Topic aims to explore the synergies between feed nutrition and ruminant metabolism for enhanced production. We invite submissions of perspectives, reviews, hypotheses, methods, and original research articles shedding light on the relationships among silage, feed nutrition, and the microbiome in dairy cows and goats.

• Who leads a Research Topic? 

  A team of guest editors (called topic editors) lead their Research Topic. This editorial team oversees the entire process, from the initial topic proposal to calls for participation, the peer review, and final publications.

  The team may also include topic coordinators, who help the topic editors send calls for participation, liaise with topic editors on abstracts, and support contributing authors. In some cases, they can also be assigned as reviewers.
