About this Research Topic
Congenital tracheal stenosis (CTS) is a very special disease that endangers the lives of infants and young children. In the past two decades, the treatment of CTS has made great progress. However, there’s still room for improvement in the methodology of surgical treatment and the medium- to long-term prognosis. The digital era and the improvement of both prenatal and postnatal examination technologies have allowed doctors to gain a deeper understanding of this life-threatening disease gradually. Meanwhile, along with the blossom of interdisciplinary research, many scientific technologies like computational fluid dynamics (CFD), artificial intelligence (AI) and visual surgery have developed rapidly in recent years and been widely used in clinical practice, playing an indispensable role in treatment selection, preoperative prediction and monitoring of postoperative recovery. Generally, it is promising to reduce the mortality rate of CTS, but we still need to summarize the development of this disease from multiple fields, so that more doctors can diagnose and treat CTS appropriately.
We hope that through this research topic, we can make a more comprehensive summary of the diagnosis of CTS, including classification, treatment, and long-term prognosis, and subsequently enable more doctors master the diagnosis and treatment of this disease, achieving the goals of early identification, diagnosis, and treatment. We also strive to properly evaluate the emerging new technologies and methods, and ultimately hope to achieve better results in the diagnosis and treatment of CTS. By utilizing big data analysis and new developed technologies, we hope to provide innovative ideas for their application in clinical treatment, thereby enhancing therapeutic plan of CTS and reduce the mortality rate continuously.
