Exploring Surgical Techniques, Microbiological Insights, and Peri-Implant Disease in Dental Implantology

The history of dental implants is a long and winding one, dating back to the early days of human civilization. The modern era of dental implants began in the 1950s, when Swedish orthopedic surgeon Per-Ingvar Brånemark discovered that titanium could be successfully osseointegrated, or fused to bone. This discovery led to the development of the first titanium dental implants, which were placed in humans in the early 1960s. Since then, dental implants have undergone continuous development and improvement. Today, they are a highly successful and reliable way to replace missing teeth.

Improving quality of life is the main goal of our daily clinical practice. The goal of this Research Topic is to provide a comprehensive scenario about recent advances in dental implantology in all its aspects.

Specific themes encouraged are:

- new surgical techniques and/or reviews about it;
- new microbiological aspects and/or reviews about it;
- new advances in the peri-implant disease comprehension and/or reviews about it;
- reconstructive aspects in implant diseases;
- case report/series about digital flow in planning and placement of dental implants;
- new findings about the quality of life scores;
