About this Research Topic
The main aim of this research topic is to explore the controversies and emerging evidence in novel organ-preservation strategies for various disease sites, with a particular focus on radiation therapy. The goal is to collect review articles that provide a comprehensive overview of the current state of organ preservation strategies, including the latest technological advancements, patient preferences, risks associated with organ preservation, and available salvage options. The research also aims to evaluate key studies or trials comparing organ preservation to standard surgical management and identify the barriers and challenges in adopting these strategies.
The scope of this research topic is defined by its focus on organ preservation strategies in cancer management, particularly in the context of radiation therapy. We welcome articles addressing, but not limited to, the following themes:
● Standard surgical techniques for cancer treatment in specific disease sites.
● Technological advancements and developments in surgery, radiation oncology, and medical oncology that facilitate organ preservation.
● Patient preferences and the impact of organ preservation on patient-reported outcomes.
● Risks associated with organ preservation and available salvage options.
● Evaluation of key studies or trials comparing organ preservation to standard surgical management.
● Barriers and challenges in adopting organ preservation strategies.
● Identification of necessary technologies and scientific advancements for wider acceptance and implementation of organ preservation.
● Identification of clinical trials needed to further establish the effectiveness of organ preservation strategies.
Please note: Manuscripts consisting solely of bioinformatics, computational analysis, or predictions of public databases which are not accompanied by validation (independent clinical or patient cohort, or biological validation in vitro or in vivo, which are not based on public databases) are not suitable for publication in this journal.
