About this Research Topic
The main aim of this research topic is to explore the potential of companion animals as sentinels of cancer and environmental hazards. By closely observing the health and well-being of these animals, we aim to unlock valuable insights that contribute to our understanding of cancer etiology, environmental quality, and human health risks. The research will focus on identifying common risks, such as pollutants, chemicals, and lifestyle factors, and studying shared cancers to gain insights into underlying causes, genetic factors, and potential therapeutic approaches.
The scope of this research topic is defined by the health monitoring of companion animals and the investigation of their environments and lifestyles. We welcome articles addressing the following themes:
- The role of companion animals as an early warning system for emerging cancer trends and environmental threats.
- The investigation of shared exposures between companion animals and humans.
- The study of shared cancers in companion animals and humans for insights into underlying causes, genetic factors, and potential therapeutic approaches.
- The engagement of communities in understanding the potential role of companion animals as sentinels.
- The influence of this research on evidence-based policies aimed at safeguarding the health of both animals and humans.
