Patients with severe aortic stenosis (AS) can often present with concomitant cardiac amyloidosis (CA). The exact prevalence is unknown with recent studies indicating CA is present in 5-15% of patients with AS. Concomitant AS and CA may impact patient recovery after aortic valve replacement or the quality of life years a patient can expect after aortic valve replacement. These factors should be considered in preoperative planning.
Routine screening for CA in patients diagnosed with AS is not common and could be attributed to several factors. However, there is a pressing need to ensure that patients with concomitant AS and CA are identified and correct treatment options are implemented.
This Research Topic will investigate the prevalence of CA in AS patients. Sub-themes include but are not limited to:
• CA impact on quality of life after aortic valve replacement
•Diagnostic criteria of the two concomitant diseases based on different cardiac imaging modalities:
•CA impact on therapeutic options for AS
The Topic Editors encourage the submission of review type articles.
Keywords:
amyloidosis, restenosis, aortic stenosis
