About this Research Topic
This Research Topic aims to bring together cutting-edge research on the molecular mechanisms of neurodevelopmental disorders, including their genetic, epigenetic, and environmental determinants. We invite original research, reviews, and perspectives that address the following topics:
- The genetic basis of neurodevelopmental disorders: recent advances in identifying genetic risk factors for neurodevelopmental disorders, including autism spectrum disorder, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, and intellectual disability
- Epigenetic mechanisms in neurodevelopmental disorders: the role of epigenetic modifications, such as DNA methylation and histone modifications, in the development and progression of neurodevelopmental disorders
- The role of environmental factors in neurodevelopmental disorders: the impact of prenatal and early life exposures, such as maternal infections and exposure to toxins, on the development and progression of neurodevelopmental disorders
- The role of neuronal circuits in neurodevelopmental disorders: the impact of disruptions in neuronal circuits on the development and progression of neurodevelopmental disorders
- Emerging therapies for neurodevelopmental disorders: novel therapeutic targets and approaches for the prevention and treatment of neurodevelopmental disorders, including pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions such as behavioral therapies and neurofeedback
We particularly encourage submissions that explore new avenues for the development of targeted therapies for neurodevelopmental disorders, and that highlight the translational potential of research on the molecular mechanisms of these disorders.
With this Research Topic, we aim to provide a comprehensive overview of the current state of research on the molecular mechanisms of neurodevelopmental disorders, and to highlight new directions for future research. We welcome submissions from a variety of disciplines, including genetics, neurobiology, epigenetics, and environmental health.
We look forward to receiving your contributions.
Keywords: molecular mechanisms, neurodevelopmental disorders, epigenetic, autism, ADHD
Important Note: All contributions to this Research Topic must be within the scope of the section and journal to which they are submitted, as defined in their mission statements. Frontiers reserves the right to guide an out-of-scope manuscript to a more suitable section or journal at any stage of peer review.
