Women in Transportation Research 2023: Empowering Progress

We are delighted to announce this Research Topic titled, Women in Transportation Research 2023: Empowering Progress, which not only aims to celebrate the contributions of women in transportation research but also embodies our commitment to supporting and uplifting their work. Worldwide, 33% of researchers worldwide are women, and they are documented to be awarded less research funding than men on a whole (Karen B. Schmaling et al 2023).

This Research Topic provides a platform to showcase the novel research, innovative ideas, and transformative insights that women bring to the field of transportation. By focusing on their unique perspectives, challenges, and achievements, we aim to foster a more inclusive and diverse transportation research community.

We invite researchers, academics, and those actively working in the transportation industry to submit their manuscripts exploring various topics within transportation. We welcome manuscripts that explore various topics within transportation however are particularly interested in work emphasizing the experiences and contributions of women.

Thanks to secured funding, we are pleased to offer financial assistance for the publication of five manuscripts, thereby directly supporting women researchers in the transportation field. It is only a small step however we hope it is a step in the right direction towards a more equitable and impactful transportation research landscape.

Please note: to be considered for this collection, the first or last author should be a researcher who identifies as a woman
