Advances on Abiotic Stress in Horticultural Crops Using Experimentation and Computation

Horticultural crops comprise mainly fruits, vegetables, ornamental, aromatic, plantation, and medicinal plants. These crops perform a major role in agricultural prosperity and the economy of a nation. An important issue facing them as sessile organisms is the ability to respond rapidly to environmental changes, including abiotic stresses such as acid salt, alkaline salt, drought, temperature, irradiance, and heavy metals. Plants have established a variety of strategies to cope with the adverse effects of these individuals/combinations, with complex signaling networks and their ability to crosstalk playing a key role in adaptation to adverse environmental conditions.

This Research Topic aims to decipher the complex mechanisms of a large number of signaling pathway interactions in response to different stresses based on molecular biology, genetics, systems biology, and other approaches to ultimately advance the field. This Research Topic welcomes manuscripts dealing with the basic science and prospects of abiotic stress in horticultural crops. We particularly welcome research that focuses on the following areas.

1. Large-scale multi-omics analysis related to stress adaptation

2. Novel response stress mechanisms in highly resistant species

3. Signal regulation network based on artificial intelligence technology
