About this Research Topic
Resilience plays a large role in successful aging. As discussed by Merchant and her colleagues (1), successful aging was first introduced by Rowe and Kahn emphasizing aspects such as illness avoidance, high physical and mental functioning, and active life engagement (2); and was then subsequently expanded to include multidimensional factors such as social functioning, psychological factors, and resilience (3). This Research Topic is of immense importance since the population of older adults is growing worldwide and caring for these people will put an immense stress on all available resources. Importantly, understanding resilience is one of the first steps that we can take to address this issue.
The goal of this Research Topic is to describe and examine the role that resilience plays in all aspects of aging from the molecular level to the ability of older adults to recover from a stressor.
We welcome submissions that address resilience in the following sections that constitute Frontiers in Aging
o Aging and the Immune System
o Aging, Metabolism and Redox Biology
o Cellular Senescence
o Genetics, Genomics and Epigenomics of Aging
o Interventions in Aging
o Molecular Mechanisms of Aging
o Musculoskeletal Aging
o Neoplastic Pathologies of Aging
o Nutrition in Aging and Health Longevity
