About this Research Topic
Recent technological advances, such as ligand-based and structure-based virtual screening combined with MD simulation, facilitate the identification of chemicals that bind ABC transporters and may affect their biosynthesis and function. Understanding the mechanisms of action of chemicals that affect ABC transporters is important for understanding pathomechanisms and for designing combination approaches to maximize the therapeutic effects of chemicals. The ultimate goal of this topic section is to lay the foundation necessary to develop new therapeutic strategies for diseases associated with the dysregulation of ABC transporters.
This topic section invites original papers, review articles, mini-reviews, and perspective manuscripts in the following areas (but not limited to):
1. The function and pathomechanism of ABC transporters in genetic and lifestyle-related diseases.
2. Discovery of small molecule compounds/chemicals targeting ABC transporters.
3. The mechanism of action of chemicals that affect ABC transporters.
Keywords: ABC transporter, pharmacological chaperone, proteostasis regulator, compounds, screening
Important Note: All contributions to this Research Topic must be within the scope of the section and journal to which they are submitted, as defined in their mission statements. Frontiers reserves the right to guide an out-of-scope manuscript to a more suitable section or journal at any stage of peer review.
