About this Research Topic
This Research Topic in Frontiers in Endocrinology aims to further unravel the complex web of interactions amongst BDNF, sex hormones, brain function and behavior. We intend to bring together research highlighting innovative perspectives, novel findings, and state-of-the-art methodologies in this multidisciplinary field, thereby fostering enhanced understanding of the etiology, pathophysiology, and potential therapeutic avenues for associated disorders.
We welcome contributions covering, but not limited to, the following areas:
• Understanding the influence of BDNF on neurogenesis, synaptic plasticity, and its implication in cognitive and mood disorders;
• Unraveling the effects of sex hormones on brain function and behavior, including their impact on neurodevelopment, cognition, mood, and neurodegeneration;
• Exploration of the interplay among BDNF, sex hormones and brain function;
• Advanced technologies or methodologies employed to study the dynamics among BDNF, sex hormones and brain function;
• Therapeutic strategies targeting BDNF, or sex hormone pathways for the treatment of neurological or psychological diseases;
• Investigating the impact of endocrine disruptors on hormones, brain function, and their potential interaction with BDNF.
Keywords: Brain function, Behavior, Neuroendocrine mechanisms, Brain-derived neurotrophic factor, BDNF, Sex hormone
