About this Research Topic
The objectives of this research topic are to identify the effects of past climatic changes on the evolution and biogeography of the ASA regions and, at the same time, to protect the future of this biodiversity, evaluating potential changes in distribution and risks of extinction of native species, as well as the establishment of exotic species.
This research topic targets authors interested in contributing to the multidisciplinary knowledge of Antarctic and sub-Antarctic biodiversity and ecosystems. We ask authors to contribute to this article collection by focusing on:
1- Origin and diversification of Antarctic and sub-Antarctic biodiversity
2.- Impact of glacial cycles on the ASA biodiversity
3.- Connectivity across the Southern Ocean
4.- Physiological responses to climate changes
5.- Distribution shifts and extinction risks
6. - Anthropogenic climate change and other direct human impacts on ASA biodiversity
7.- Science for decision-making in biodiversity conservation practices
8.- Governance of biodiversity in ASA
