About this Research Topic
Carbon emission governance involves promoting low-carbon development within regions and encompasses various aspects, including reducing fossil energy consumption during the production process, and improving production technology and methods to reach carbon emission reductions control. At the local government level, it entails implementing governance processes that achieve low-carbon development through tax policies, industrial policies, structural adjustments, and land-use management. In the evolution process of urban-rural interaction, carbon emission governance needs to consider the specific features of urban-rural areas and the actual needs of residents. Carbon emission governance faces challenges related to regional coordination, policy uncertainty, technological innovation, enforcement and compliance, economic and social impacts, interconnectedness of sectors, and long-term planning. Overcoming these challenges requires robust governance mechanisms, stakeholder engagement, and a holistic approach that balances environmental, social, and economic considerations. The goal of this Research Topic is to provide a platform for scientists and researchers to share, communicate, and discuss their findings on carbon emission governance in the evolution of urban-rural interactions to promote the regulation and management of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions to address climate change.
For this Research Topic, we seek a range of Original Research, Perspective, Policy Brief, Policy and Practice Reviews from multiple social science disciplines to help achieve the sustainable development goals of urban and rural areas. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:
• Measurement of carbon emissions in urban-rural areas;
• Carbon emission governance in urban-rural areas;
• Urban-rural development patterns considering carbon emissions;
• Urban-rural integration development considering carbon emissions;
• Low carbon behavior of residents in urban-rural areas;
• Design and evaluation of carbon emission policies, including carbon pricing mechanisms, regulations, and market-based instruments;
• Social and economic impacts of carbon emission governance policies, including the distributional effects, behavioral responses, and climate adaptation strategies of different stakeholders;
• Sectoral Interactions in the contexts of carbon emission governance;
• Long-term Planning and Pathways for carbon emission reduction, including scenario analysis, modeling, and strategic planning.
