About this Research Topic
Spatially and temporally varying distributions of the analytes and chemical cues that mimic biological environments can now be established by making the best use of physics at the micro- and nano-meter scale and by integrating novel device designs with specific geometries and materials. Furthermore, many innovative micro-/nano-system platforms and associated fabrication techniques have been proposed to interface these engineered micro-/nano-systems with various biological and chemical analytes, manipulating and monitoring them with high sensitivity and specificity.
In this research topic, we welcome review articles and original research papers aiming to relate the key issues of basic research and materials development with new sensing and transducing technology in the frame of emerging and demanding biotechnological applications.
The research topic would include the following topics:
• New demanding applications in bioengineering and biotechnology
• New sensing methods and technologies
• Micro-/nano-system design, fabrication, and materials
• Modelling and computational methods for biological environments
Keywords: BioMEMS, Microfluidics, Lab-on-a-chip, Micro/Nano Materials and Device
