About this Research Topic
‘Health for All’ envisions that people everywhere have good health for a fulfilling life in a peaceful, prosperous, and sustainable world whilst recognizing and promoting that the right to good health is a basic human right. Currently, 30% of the global population is without access to essential health provisions, and almost 2 billion individuals face economically deprived health circumstances and coverage and therefore do not have access to this right. A shift from economies driven by profit to economies driven by fairness and investment in health, with success being measured by the well-being of people and healthy environments is critical in achieving this goal.
As the world continues to work towards achieving ‘Health For All’ which coincides with the Sustainable Development Goals, it is important to consider the progress that has been achieved, as well as how the world can continue to guide and support this goal to make it a reality and motivate action to tackle the health challenges of today – and tomorrow. It is well documented that COVID-19 and other health emergencies, overlapping humanitarian and climate crises, economic constraints, and war set back every country’s journey in achieving ‘Health For All’, and has made the demand for this goal even more urgent.
It is in this spirit that Frontiers in Public Health is launching this new article collection to coincide with this UN day, to highlight progress and new perspectives to accelerate progress in achieving ‘Health For All’, with a particular interest in the world’s most vulnerable populations. Global contributions of successes and strategies (i.e., from developed countries) that are widely applicable, or can be considered as lessons learned to achieve this one unified goal are welcome into this collection. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
• Recent public health successes and strategies towards achieving ‘Health For All' in the context of global public health crises and those applicable for future occurrences;
• Recent innovative and global public health strategies and perspectives towards achieving ‘Health For All’ (i.e., strategies of financial protection in accessibility to high quality and essential health provisions, care, and treatment and strategies to increase social participation to empower individuals with people at the center of health decisions/outcomes);
• Progress and challenges in universal health coverage and overcoming health-related socioeconomic inequities;
• Investments and changes to health systems already implemented and those needed to meet the increased demand and supply of health services in response to global health crises (i.e., characteristics, functioning, challenges, and reforms of national public healthcare models);
• Evaluation and comparison of current strategies towards achieving ‘Health For All’;
•Technology advances in the healthcare system towards contributing to achieving 'Health For All'.
Submissions of original research, review, systematic review, opinion, perspective, data report, policy, and practice review will be considered for this collection.
