About this Research Topic
Infectious biological agents are significant causes of reproductive disorders and thus are of high research priority in animal industries around the world. Reproductive failures can include infectious abortion which is of significant concern for veterinary health and economic losses to domestic species producers. These factors not only impact the prosperity of animal industry but are also important from public health point of view as many infectious agents harbor zoonotic potential. Bacterial, viral, parasites, protozoon, chlamydial and fungal infectious agents are known to have direct impact on reproductive health of animal, making identification and diagnosis critical.
Many infectious diseases present similar clinical signs or can be confused with other physiological reproduction issues making accurate diagnosis difficult in the absence of laboratory tests. Definitive diagnosis of any infectious disease requires direct demonstration and identification of the causative agent found in infected tissues or fluids.
There is a lack of comprehensive studies focused on identifying infectious disease causes of reproductive problems with definitive and differential diagnoses. Overall, the main goal of this Research Topic is to address the gap of knowledge in infection disease causes of reproductive disorders in domestic animals.
The aim of the current Research Topic is to update our knowledge on aspects of infectious diseases causes of reproductive disorders in domestic animals species. The main areas to be included in this Research Topic are:
- Mode of transmission of infection diseases.
- Host-pathogen interaction and immune evasion mechanisms.
- Novel treatment strategies to stem the infection.
- Prevention strategies.
- Important zoonotic diseases.
