About this Research Topic
Studying the impacts of risk factors (both environmental and occupational) could lead to a better understanding of the adverse effects on the health of the population as well as their medium and long-term consequences.
Identification of at-risk populations, early diagnosis, and prognosis prediction play major roles in preventing or reducing the burden of chronic illness. Addressing chronic disease is a major challenge for healthcare systems worldwide, requiring a long period of supervision, observation, care and/or rehabilitation.
The health effects caused by occupational exposures are a cause for concern worldwide, so it is important to analyse the relationships between work and health, identifying the risk factors that may cause impact to workers health and wellbeing.
To achieve optimal worker health and wellbeing, we should understand the health impact of different exposures and safety conditions at work, including the exposure to biological and chemical agents, as well as the repetitiveness and intensity of the tasks to be carried out and many others.
Chronic diseases are nonreversible, long-duration, and slowly progressing pathologies. Approximately one in three adults suffers from multiple chronic diseases, which represent the leading cause of disability worldwide. The most prevalent chronic conditions are cardiovascular disease, chronic lung disease, diabetes, and chronic kidney disease, commonly associated with higher healthcare costs.
We invite colleagues from all health disciplines to submit articles using qualitative, quantitative, or mixed-method approaches. This Research Topic welcomes original research, reviews, opinions and perspectives manuscripts related to environmental occupational exposure and related chronic diseases.
The submitted articles should focus on presenting new contributions on the effects of occupational and environmental exposures on the development of chronic diseases. Topics include, but are not limited to:
- Exposure and effects of occupational and environmental exposure on the development of chronic diseases
- Prediction and prevention of environmental and occupational exposure to the development of chronic diseases
- Worldwide healthcare responses to chronic diseases related to exposure to occupational and environmental risk factors
- Identification of vulnerable populations for occupational and environmental exposure, which could lead to chronic diseases
