About this Research Topic
Building on the Millennium Development Goals, the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are the cornerstone of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, billed by the UN as “An Agenda of unprecedented scope and significance.” The seventeen ambitious goals, which are intended to be reached by 2030, are conceived as integrated, indivisible, and as balancing the economic, social, and environmental dimensions of sustainable development. With only 7 years left to achieve Sustainable Development Goal 5: Gender Equality, there is no better time to highlight women empowerment in the scientific community.
Gender equality is a fundamental human right, and is essential to ensure a peaceful, prosperous, and sustainable world. Therefore, this Research Topic will address Sustainable Development Goal 5: Gender Equality, from a women empowerment perspective. Focal topics include, though are not limited to:
- Female role models in women's health-related research
- Representation for women in health-related policy
- Impact of gender gaps in education upon quality of life and mental health
- Empowering minority women and their quality of life
- Violence against women and the effect on their quality of life (physical, sexual, mental, online)
- Supportive care to improve quality of life
- Reproductive rights
- Gendered differences in diagnosis and treatment
- Inequality in access to healthcare
- Patient advocacy in healthcare
