About this Research Topic
The objective of this Research Topic is to compile successful experiences of the use of biochar in environmental applications, which cover wastewater treatment to organic solid waste valorization by composting or anaerobic digestion, fields where biochar has been successfully tested to improve the systems’ performance. Information about the mechanisms of the processes involving the use of biochar will be appreciated. Other particular research areas such as soil bioremediation, fertilization or gas exhaust treatment, as well as general issues such as environmental impacts and economics of biochar use are also welcome. Applications that present a significant reduction and mitigation of greenhouse gases are of special interest in this Research Topic.
We welcome the submission of Original Research, Review, Mini Review, and Perspective articles of topics that are related, but not restricted to:
• Use of biochar in composting
• Use of biochar in anaerobic digestion
• Use of biochar in soil bioremediation
• Use of biochar in exhaust gas treatment
• The role of biochar in reducing greenhouse gases
• Biochar and fertilization
• Biochar as novel adsorbent agent for wastewater treatment
• Sustainability of biochar
• Environmental impact and LCA using biochar
• Economics of biochar application
