About this Research Topic
In order to realize the sustainability, resilience and security of urban energy system (UES), UES is transforming from a centralized system to a highly decentralized system. One of the driving forces is the remarkable growth of integrated distributed renewable energy sources (RES) within the urban areas. This growth is mainly due to the success and popularization of adaptive solutions, such as integrated photovoltaics/thermal energy, heat pump modules and their attached energy storage or thermal storage systems. The emergence of these solutions not only indicates the change of energy pattern to a more sustainable and flexible approach, but also entails an evolution in urban energy planning, modeling technology, operation/control intelligence and management schemes to match the energy supply and demand across various system scales.
