About this Research Topic
The goal of this Research Topic is to publish expert reviews and original research articles on the latest advances, challenges, and applications of exosome-based drug delivery. This Research Topic aims to comprehensively cover the relevant topics of new molecule mechanisms and strategies based on drug-loaded exosomes for disease diagnosis and therapeutics. Special emphasis will be placed on studies that create new strategies for loading drugs into exosomes or gain insight into the molecular mechanisms and future application of exosome-based drugs to improve the delivery efficiency and therapeutic sensitivity of drugs or gain insight into the mechanisms of exosome therapy. We call for reviews with a systematic and comprehensive assessment of recent advances in exosome-based drug delivery for disease treatment. Additionally, we express great enthusiasm for the potential of engineered exosomes to offer clinical benefits in the treatment of various diseases.
In this research topic, we welcome a wide range of topics including original research and review on the following topics, but not limited to:
• Scale-up issues in exosome preparation
• Isolation, preparation, and characterization of exosomes
• Biomimetic composite materials
• Engineered exosomes, especially the design of tissue-specific exosomes
• New technology for exosome-encapsulated drugs
• Controlled, targeted, and sustained drug delivery
• Development of novel drugs
• Exosomes and tumor microenvironment
• Cancer treatment
• Regulatory issues in clinical translation of exosomal systems
Keywords: drug delivery; biomimetic material; cancer therapy; disease diagnosis
Important Note: All contributions to this Research Topic must be within the scope of the section and journal to which they are submitted, as defined in their mission statements. Frontiers reserves the right to guide an out-of-scope manuscript to a more suitable section or journal at any stage of peer review.
