About this Research Topic
Pediatric Intensive Care units (PICU) have led to a substantial reduction in the mortality of critically-ill children. However, many regions of the world currently lack such specialised healthcare resources to support and treat children with life-threatening diseases. This is a major challenge for clinicians working in hospitals and emergency departments in low- and middle-income countries with limited or no available PICUs.
This research topic of Frontiers in Pediatrics aims to collect knowledge on current challenges and advances in pediatric critical care in resource-poor settings of the world. Specifically, we aim to address current challenges (e.g. organization, logistics, transport, devices, medicine, research) and local efforts to organize and implement PICU care and other healthcare systems aimed to improve the care for critically-ill children. In addition, submission of papers addressing any research topic in the field of Pediatric Critical Care coming from low- and middle-income countries is welcomed to stimulate local research efforts.
We are looking for original research, brief research letters, opinions/commentaries, and (mini-)reviews.
