About this Research Topic

This Research Topic is closed for submissions.

Background

Diabetes is a significant risk factor for cardiovascular diseases, and the two share many pathophysiologic mechanisms, as well as other risk factors such as dyslipidemia, hypertension, metabolic disorders. Above all, the therapeutic approach to both diseases increases to overlap.

Although diabetes and CVD are common in everyday clinical practice, their treatment is often challenging. However, recent findings have suggested that there may be therapies with beneficial effects on both diseases. The goal of this research topic is to explore close relationship between diabetes and CVD, with a focus on synergistic treatment approaches. Articles should provide an overview of novel therapies that impact both diabetes and cardiovascular diseases.

Specific themes of interest include but are not limited to:
1. Antidiabetic drugs with beneficial effects on the non-diabetic heart
2. The cardiovascular implications of new antidiabetic drugs
3. The effect of neprilysin inhibition on glucose metabolism
4. The benefits of GLP1 receptors in cardiovascular diseases
5. The use of PCSK9 inhibitors in diabetic heart diseases
6. The implications of new lipid lowering therapy versus statins in treatment diabetic heart diseases

All article types accepted by Frontiers are encouraged.
