About this Research Topic
Treatment evidence of chronic disease are continuously reported with large-scale clinical trials and the guidelines are being updated mainly based on their finding. To support those, data on the safety and effectiveness in various clinical setting should also be evaluated as well. The majority of them have comorbidities or complications that multi-medication is frequently prescribed. The field of pharmacoepidemiology also investigates the potential risks and benefits of these situations.
Therefore, one of the main concerns of pharmacoepidemiology would be in chronic diseases. This Research Topic aims to provide information about medication in order to improve the care for patients with chronic diseases more precisely in various settings.
Researchers are welcome to submit original research articles as well as narrative or systematic reviews of pharmacoepidemiology in chronic diseases. The sources of pharmacoepidemiologic data include clinical trials, cohorts, and epidemiological investigations from databases. This Topic is focused on, but not limited to, the following:
- Clinical research on effectiveness and safety of drugs including biologics and vaccines
- Patterns of drug utilization
- Patient safety of drugs
- Post-marketing surveillance
- Cost-effectiveness of drugs
- Interpretation of regulatory guidelines
- Methodology of pharmacoepidemiology.
