About this Research Topic
This Research Topic aims to provide new insights on underlying mechanisms involved in the metabolic crosstalk between white and brown adipose tissues with the liver, heart, muscle and central/peripheral nervous systems. The goal is to investigate how this communication may impact the progression of pathologies such as obesity, diabetes, NAFLD and cardiovascular diseases. Adipokines and batokines are novel candidates to develop new therapeutic strategies for the treatment of metabolic syndrome.
We welcome Original Research articles and Reviews on the subtopics below, with a particular interest on animal and human research, but ex-vivo and in-vitro studies will also be considered.
• New inter-communication signals/pathways between adipose tissues.
• Adipokines/batokines in glucose and lipid metabolism.
• Novel adipokines/batokines controlling fat mass and body weight: therapeutic approaches.
• Adipose tissues and immune cells crosstalk: adipokines/batokinees/cytokines.
• Adipokines and circadian clock.
• Adipokines/ batokines and peripheral nervous sytem crosstalk.
• Epicardial adipose tissue and cardiac function
• Getting to the heart of tissue-cross talk- the role of cardiokines
