Background

Plant developmental processes are tightly regulated by transcription regulation and posttranslational modifications. In response to environmental stimulators, such as abiotic stresses, plants begin to modify their tissues or organs through several affected regulations and modifications in order to survive. Transcriptional regulations, which affect gene expression by changing DNA, are critical in governing plant tolerance against abiotic stresses. While posttranslational modifications include additional epigenetic factors that affect a target gene to adapt to plant growth and development. In recent years, plant growth and development have made significant advances in transcriptional regulation and posttranslational modifications. Gene expression regulation is a critical step in many biological processes, including development, differentiation, and response to abiotic stressors. It involves transcriptional and posttranscriptional regulation at many levels of DNA (e.g., chromatin), RNA, and protein levels.

Given the perspective of transcriptional regulation and posttranslational modifications, it remains a challenge to decipher the molecular mechanisms of plant growth and development against abiotic stresses. This Research Topic aims to bring together researches that reveal the molecular processes by which transcriptional control and posttranslational modifications interact with endogenous and external stimuli to influence plant development. Together with functional analyses and/or omics research, we expect to gain a better understanding of how these alterations play a role in controlling plant root, leaf, and flower growth, as well as developmental phase transitions related to organ formation. This research topic will cover a wide spectrum of studies on plant development, transcriptional regulation, and posttranslational modifications, especially in abiotic stresses. We welcome contributions linked to transcriptional regulation and posttranslational modification research in plant growth and development under abiotic stresses, article types include Original Research, Methods, Hypothesis & Theory, Review, Mini Review, Perspective, or Opinion.

This collection embraces, but is not limited to, the subtopics listed below:
1. Identification or functional investigation of transcriptional, posttranscriptional, or additional genetic/epigenetic regulators in plants using omics or other biological approaches
2. Transcriptional regulations and posttranslational modifications in response to endogenous and external signals to control plant growth and development.
3. Posttranslational effects and their genetic modifications to improve plant growth and development under abiotic stresses
