About this Research Topic
However, the detailed crosstalk between endocrine disorders and dental diseases remains unclear. There is growing evidence revealing that endocrine factors may induce the occurrence and development of dental diseases. Among these factors, adipokines, represented by leptin, adiponectin, visfatin, etc, which are the key causative factors for metabolic diseases, have been demonstrated to be key members in inducing dental diseases, such as periodontitis and TMD. Strategies based on developing antibodies or inhibitors of these molecules have been observed to be effective in animals. There are also various novel endocrine factors being discovered. In the meanwhile, several other mechanisms of endocrine disorders inducing dental diseases have been proposed. The specific pathophysiology of endocrine diseases inducing dental diseases warrants further studies to investigate.
The goals of this research topic are:
1. To explore the relationship between endocrine disorders and dental diseases, including periodontitis, periapical periodontitis, peri-implantitis, and temporomandibular diseases (TMD), etc.
2. To investigate the role of endocrine factors, such as adipokine, in the pathogenesis of dental diseases.
3. To look into the other possible mechanisms of endocrine diseases in inducing dental diseases.
4. To discover novel treatment strategies based on endocrine factors or other key molecules for dental diseases.
Submissions of Original Research, Reviews, Mini Reviews and Clinical Trials are welcomed, focusing on but not limited to the following topics:
1. Basic and clinical research on exploring the association between endocrine disorders and dental diseases.
2. Research investigating the role of endocrine factors in dental diseases.
3. Research investigating the role of adipokines in dental diseases.
4. Research developing novel endocrine factors for dental disorders.
5. Research looking into the other possible mechanisms of endocrine diseases in inducing dental diseases.
6. Strategies based on targeting endocrine factors as potential treatments for dental diseases.
