About this Research Topic
Glial cells represent a major population of cells in the nervous system. After more than 100 years of the glial cells’ first description and discovery very little is known in terms of the functions and roles that they perform. These cells, once recognized as support cells for neurons, are actively involved in a plethora of functions related to health and disease.
The current research topic focuses on the vital role of glial cells in diverse physiological and pathological conditions. Specifically, our main objective is to provide a major input to the understanding of the possible mechanisms by which these cells perform determinate functions.
In this context of glial cells, we welcome original research, review and mini-review articles with a focus on, but not limited to, the following topics:
1. Memory formation
2. Circadian plasticity
3. Neurodegenerative diseases
4. Novel glial functions
5. Glial cells like novel therapeutic agents.
