About this Research Topic
This Research Topic covers the role of plant viruses in causing diseases that affect plant development, advanced detection of those viruses, and how we can protect plants from them. Its main goal is to promote research on pathogenesis and advanced strategies to protect plants from viral diseases, such as the use of genome editing technologies which have enabled the effective, precise, and rapid engineering of plant genomes and pathogen diagnostics. This collection affords researchers the opportunity to connect and publish impactful research to advance our understanding of plant viral pathogens and protection.
Authors are encouraged to submit interesting research articles and/or review articles on the following topics:
• Plant viral pathogenesis: viruses and host factors;
• CRISPR Cas-systems and high throughput sequencing (HTS) methods for plant virus diagnostics;
• Advanced disease control strategies for plant virus diseases, e.g., gene editing technologies, RNA based control measures, combined molecular breeding with biotechnology for plant virus disease resistance.
Keywords: plant viral pathogenesis, gene editing, plant virus-host interaction, R-genes, virus disease management
Important Note: All contributions to this Research Topic must be within the scope of the section and journal to which they are submitted, as defined in their mission statements. Frontiers reserves the right to guide an out-of-scope manuscript to a more suitable section or journal at any stage of peer review.
