About this Research Topic
Energy is a key element for all human activities such as industry, agriculture, housing, and transportation. Energy production determines the level of the development that any country could reach. In addition, many developing countries are facing shortages in their basic needs for energy supplies, therefore alternative energy resources including renewable, will be a matter of necessity soon. Energy conservation is one of the strategies that has evolved since the 1970’s, when the world started to take action facing the shortage of non-renewable fuel resources & begun to rely on renewable resources. Using renewable energy in buildings and urban areas is essential to reduce the negative effects of fossil fuel on the environment. The need for optimizing renewable energy networks has been revealed due to the significant increase in energy consumption and the rapid expansion in the technological development of energy system.
This Research Topic intends to focus on presenting state of the art research in the domains of energy conservation within the built environment and adopting renewable energy methods in buildings and urban areas. This includes solar energy, geothermal, wind, biomass and hydropower energy. It also aims to delve into strategies and technologies that will serve the Sustainable Development Goals and mitigation strategies for energy conservation in different building typologies, to yield a safer, better world for new generations. Finally, research that improves the overall environmental quality and provide new solutions for energy generation and conservation in the globe is a requirement in this era, in line with UN 2030 agenda.
