About this Research Topic
Oral diseases are among the most prevalent diseases globally and have serious health and economic burdens, greatly reducing quality of life for those affected. Although oral diseases are preventable, they remain highly prevalent especially in low- and middle-income countries where affordable oral care is inaccessible. The research topic titled "Public Health Dentistry and Oral Infectious Disease Dynamics, Diagnosis and Management" will encompass societally significant topics pertaining to oral diseases affecting public health and the society at large with emphasis on its awareness, prevention, mechanisms, investigations, diagnosis and management. The research topic will also provide insight on oral infectious diseases with significance on improving the health of communities through education and research for disease awareness, prevention and its effective management.
The rise of oral disease burden in low- and middle-income countries is indeed becoming a matter of concern and is related to social and economic changes. The oral disease mechanisms are not well understood. Through the research topic chosen we aim to highlight the urgent need to address oral diseases among other as a global health priority. Infectious diseases are illnesses caused by harmful agents that enter the body or opportunistic. The mouth is a significant source of infection that contributes to the burden of disease and to general health and well-being. To solve the above-mentioned societal issues dental public health research aims to improve the oral health of the population through preventive, diagnostic and curative services. Untreated oral diseases result in pain, poor quality of life, lack of adequate nutrition and even decreases productivity and pose a challenge to existing health care systems.
The goal of the research topic chosen aims to strategically present to the global audience significant oral health concerns faced by the society with emphasis on its effect on the community. Through dissemination of scientific data and information creation we aim to significantly contribute to existing knowledge in this domain of research.
The scope of the research topic covers original research studies, reviews and mini-reviews pertaining to public health dentistry, oral infectious diseases caused by viruses, bacteria, fungi and parasites, relationship between oral and general health, diseases due to adverse oral habits and tobacco consumption, Infectious disease immune surveillance, dynamics and mechanisms, oral infectious diseases, chronic oral diseases and malignant processes with latest advancements and recent trends pertaining to their prevention, investigations, diagnosis and management, preventable oral diseases, measure improving the health of communities, education and research for disease awareness, social and economic bearings of oral disease and societal issues pertaining to dental public health.
